EHS FFA donates to Mountain Hospice

August 19, 2013
The Inter-Mountain

The EHS FFA donated money collected to Mountain Hospice on Aug. 12.

The student organization has been a part of the Randolph County Farm Bureau for years, giving update speeches on the agriculture program and member activities, and joining forces with Farm Bureau members to collect donations for the Ronald McDonald House.

When Jim Dean died, his wife, the president of the Farm Bureau, asked that donations to Hospice be substituted for flowers, the students collected donations from its members.

"It is an honor to receive this donation from the Elkins High School Future Farmers of America," Deborah Goodman, executive director for Mountain Hospice, stated. "I was a member of the FFA when I was in high school, and it taught me valuable leadership skills."

Hospice provides many programs to help meet patients' special needs during a terminal illness and add quality to end of life care. One program, Pet Piece of Mind, provides pet care for patients and finds the animals homes if needed.

"It is encouraging to see young people involved in such worthy and important activities such as the FFA, and their support for our hospice program is very much appreciated," Goodman added.

Currently, Mountain Hospice is raising funds to help patients who are not able to stay safely in their homes during severe winter storms and states of emergency.
