Alum Bridge man arrested for dangling baby over balcony

An Alum Bridge man is being held in the Central Regional Jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond after state troopers alleged he dangled a baby from a seventh-floor balcony during an argument.

Thomas Matthew Sims III, 27, of 552 Straight Run Road, is charged with child neglect creating the risk of injury.

According to the complaint filed in Lewis County Magistrate Court, Sims was allegedly intoxicated when he became involved in a physical altercation with his girlfriend on Aug. 13.

The complaint stated that the two were caring for an female infant, who does not belong to them. During the altercation, Sims allegedly picked the child up and held her in his arms over a seventh floor balcony railing at the John Street Apartments, according to the complaint.

A witness in the apartments' parking lot witnessed the incident and called 911, the complaint states.
