Helen Campbell Armentrout

Helen Norine Campbell Armentrout, 95, of Elkins, departed this life on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, at Colonial Place in Elkins.

She was assisted by Hospice Care Corporation. She was born March 8, 1918, in Elkins, the daughter of the late Edward T. and Louida Marstiller Campbell.

On February 19, 1938, she was married to Hubert W. Armentrout of Parsons. They celebrated 66 years of marriage prior to his death on January 5, 2004. Surviving are two sons, Wm. Kent Armentrout and wife, Carol, of Elkins, and Jerry L. Armentrout, of Dayton, Ohio. Also surviving are six grandchildren; Mark Armentrout and wife Robin of Fort Mill, S.C., Beth Harrigan and husband, George, of St. Louis, Mo., Brian Armentrout of Charleston, Jaimie Armentrout of Huntington, Kevin Armentrout of Alexandria, Va., and Kelly Armentrout of Alexandria, Va. Three great-grandchildren; Sean and Evan Harrigan of St. Louis, Mo., Harper Armentrout of Huntington and several nieces and nephews also survive. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by one son, Edgar Keith Armentrout and wife, LeAnne Willoughby Armentrout, two brothers, Charles Campbell and Robert Campbell, and one sister, Anita Phillips.

Mrs. Armentrout was a graduate of Elkins High School with the class of 1936. During her career, she owned and operated a neighborhood grocery store and later worked for W.T. Grant Company in Elkins for 23 years prior to her retirement. She was a lifelong member of Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church and a member of Circle 5 of the church. She was a member of the Randolph County Senior Center. For 10 years she volunteered delivering Meals on Wheels and enjoyed writing poetry, reading and doing decorative painting. She and her husband made and painted different craft items which they sold at local craft shows. They also enjoyed traveling and took numerous trips with the Western Maryland Railroad Retirees. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Kevin Starcher officiating. Entombment will follow in the Mountain State Memorial Gardens Mausoleum near Gilman.

The family suggests expressions of sympathy be made in the form of contributions to the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church, 450 Randolph Ave., Elkins, WV 26241 or Hospice Care Corporation, PO Box 760, Arthurdale, WV 26520 in memory of Mrs. Armentrout.
