Chaz Alex Cassell, a son of Cinda and Frankie Cassell, 13, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, at his home following an extended battle with cancer with his family by his side. Alex was born Dec. 29, 1999 in Elkins.
Alex was a student at Green Bank Elementary Middle School, a member of the Durbin Church of the Brethren and an honorary member of the BFD Fire and Rescue Department. He liked to play sports, especially football and play video games.
Alex was a well-mannered straight 'A' student, had big at heart and he "Loves the Lord."
Alex is survived by his mother, Cinda Cassell of Durbin; fathers, Frankie Cassell of Bartow and Jeremy Propst of Petersburg; brothers Zachary Nevitt Cassell and Michael Cordell White, both of Durbin; step-sisters Jessica Vandevender of California, and Megan Bennett of Dailey; half-sisters, Tessa Propst, and Kinley Bennett, both of Riverton; maternal grandparents, David and Susan Vickers of Durbin; paternal grandparents, Jeannie Cassell and the late Frank Cassell of Bartow; maternal great-grandparents, Violet "Bill" Waddell and the late Buddy of Durbin; and paternal great-grandmother, Violet Cassell of Bartow.
Funeral services will be held on today, Sept. 7, 2013, at 6 p.m. at the Durbin Church of the Brethren with Rev. Danny Arbogast officiating.
Friends may call at the church from 2 to 6 p.m. on Saturday.
In keeping with Alex's wishes, he will be cremated.
