Margaret Shifflett

Margaret L. Shifflett, 75, a resident of Elkins, passed away Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, in the Davis Memorial Hospital Emergency Department.

She was born Jan. 8, 1938, in Mill Creek, a daughter of the late Forrest R. and Addie Rosencrance Shreve.

On Nov. 13, 1961, in Winchester, Va., she married Clarence E. Shifflett, who preceded her in death Nov. 9, 2000.

Surviving are five sons, Gary E. Shifflett and wife, Sandra, of Elkins, Douglas K. Shifflett and wife, Dian, of Parsons, David A. Shifflett of Elkins, Phillip "Jay" Shifflett and wife, Christy, of Beverly and Joseph "Joey" Shifflett of Elkins; one daughter, Elaine "Sue" Shifflett and, fiance, Rick Sturms of Parsons; and a special niece, Cathy Keller of Coshocton, Ohio; three sisters, Catherine Teter, Marie and Retha Shreve, all of Elkins; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two great-grandchildren expected to arrive soon, along with several nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Richard "Bud" Shreve and Kenneth S. Shreve; one sister, Carolyn J. Keller; and infants, Owen, Clinton, John and Nina.

Mrs. Shifflett was a graduate of Tennerton High School with the class of 1957. She was employed at Reidbord Brothers, Bata Shoe, Elkins Lumber and Greenfield Cabinetry, as well as a couple companies in Baltimore, Md. She was a kind and loving person who loved her family, children and grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time at Bemis and enjoyed listening to bluegrass music, reading, dancing, was an avid Mountaineer and NASCAR fan and a fan of Elvis Presley. Her favorite driver was Jeff Gordon. She loved to work puzzles and opening her home to visiting parade participants to warm up or eat during the Mountain State Forest Festival. She enjoyed spending time with her sisters whom she dearly loved, and she was a Methodist by Faith.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 10, from the funeral home chapel with Pastor James Snyder officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Ohio Valley Affiliate, West Virginia Region, PO Box 12110, Charleston, WV 25302 or the Elkins Church of the Brethren, 708 West Central St., Elkins, WV 26241 in memory of Mrs. Shifflett.

Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Margaret L. Shifflett.
