BRIDGEPORT?- The Philip Barbour girls captured the Ben Queen Invitational on Saturday, while the Elkins boys turned in a second-place showing.
Marissa Long won the girls' race in a time of 22:50.30 to pace the Colts, who finished with 26 points to outdistance Frankfort (63), Trinity (75), Buckhannon-Upshur (95), Bridgeport (98), Elkins (108) and Brooke (165). Philip Barbour's Katie Mahoney was third, while Marley Dib was seventh, Allison Villers eighth and Brianna Williams 11th.
The Elkins girls were led by Hannah Gongola's 13th-place finish in a time of 24:58. Monica Rossi was 17th (25:53), Sophie Hummer 28th (27:41), Jaycie Saseen 35th (30:05) and Katy Ross 38th (30:34)).
Laura Dean led B-U with a 10th-place showing in a time of 24:38.40.
Bridgeport's Abe Merinar cleared the course in a time of 17:49.80 to take the boys' race. Elkins' Austin Hamrick was third (18:10.50) and Philip Barbour's Scott Nesland placed fourth in a time of 18:11.70.
Other EHS finishers included Dalton Hamrick (14th, 19:56), Remington Knight (15th, 20:06), Ben Huffman (17th, 20:17), Brendan Wallace (26th, 21:13), Will Gongola (40th, 22:01) and Dylan Dilly (52nd, 24:10).
Bridgeport won the team title with 25 points, followed by Elkins (61), Philip Barbour (65), Frankfort (75), Brooke (132), Trinity (136) and B-U (136).
Elkins will host the annual Forest Festival Invitational Saturday at Davis &?Elkins College.
