Delia "Jeanette" Shreve George, 84, a resident of Cassity, passed from this life Sunday morning, Sept. 8, 2013, in Davis Memorial Hospital Emergency dDpartment to enter her eternal home in Heaven. She had been a patient at Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center where she was undergoing physical therapy following a recent surgery. Death was sudden and unexpected.
Jeanette was born Tuesday, June 4, 1929, in Adolph, a daughter of the late Charles "Ed" Shreve and Norva Fincham Shreve.
On Sept. 2, 1950, she married her lifelong love, Edward "June" George, who survives. They had celebrated 63 years of marriage.
Jeanette attended the schools of Randolph County and was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning and spending time with her family. Most of all, she enjoyed her Sunday dinners with all her children and grandchildren. She spent countless hours in her kitchen preparing the "perfect meal," only to walk away until everyone else had eaten before sitting at the table herself. As one of the most selfless people one could ever meet, she spent several years volunteering at Tyrand Cooperative Ministries in Mill Creek. She was a lifelong member of Fincham Chapel Church in Adolph and a Methodist by faith.
Others left to cherish Jeanette's memory are one daughter, Evelyn George of Talbott Community; two sons, William "Bill" George and wife, Susan, of Kingsville and Joseph "Joe" George and wife, Lisa, of Cassity; five grandchildren, Lisa Conniff and husband, John, of Talbott Community, Seth, Sabrina, Devin and Dustin George; three great-grandchildren, Garrett Conniff, Sydney Conniff and Alexis George, and several nieces and nephews for whom she cared for as her own.
Jeanette was preceded in death by one infant son, Raymond Earl; one sister, Geneva George; and five brothers, June, Bill, Ernest, Jimmy and Darewood Shreve. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Visitation for Jeanette will be conducted at the Randolph Funeral Home Wednesday from 7 until 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted from the funeral home chapel Thursday, Sept. 12, at 1 p.m. Chesley Koerner will officiate, and interment will follow in Fincham Chapel Cemetery in Adolph.
