The fourth annual Bill Proudfoot Memorial 5k Run/2-Mile Walk took place Aug. 17, 2013, starting at Riverbend Park in Elkins.
Bill Proudfoot was a House of Delegates member for 18 years and he represented Randolph and Pocahontas counties. He passed away from injuries suffered in an auto accident on Dec. 23, 2008.
The event was held as part of Austin Hamrick's senior project. Austin is a student at Elkins High School and coordinated the event. Austin has participated in track and cross-country as an Elkins High School athlete since becoming a freshman. This is why he was interested in organizing the event for his senior project.

Austin sincerely thanks all the participants who helped raise money for the Bill Proudfoot Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded to graduating Elkins High School track and cross-country athletes.

Lynn Proudfoot, the wife of the late Bill Proudfoot, came to participate and support the event. She handed out trophies to the event winners.
The overall male winner was Matt Bright with a time of 16:44. The overall female winner was Marie Bolyard with a time of 20:59. Dalton Hamrick had a time of 19:36 to place first in the male category, age 17 and under.
Marly Dib had a time of 22:38 to place first in the female category, age 17 and under. Todd Schoonover had a time of 20:48 to place first in the male category, age 40 and over. Jenna Gongola had a time of 23:09 to place first in the female category, age 40 and over.
