Tigers cruise past Lincoln; A-B spikers fall to Walsh

Mason Schoonover and Linkoln Barger had two goals each as Elkins blanked Lincoln 9-0 Tuesday night in a Big 10 Conference matchup at the EHS field.

Dalton Bobes, Trey Westerfeld, Cameron Wilson, Aaron Lee and Jacob Harper all added scores for the Tigers (5-3-0, 3-0-0 Big 10, who held a 19-0 advantage in shots on goal.

Adam Sorrow had 10 saves for the Cougars (0-4-0, 0-2-0).

"We passed (the ball) well, especially in the second half," Elkins coach Andy Montgomery said. "This was a solid team performance for us."

The Tigers, who were coming off a 1-0 loss to Washington on Saturday, will travel to Lewis County at 7:30 p.m. Thursday for another Big 10 contest.

College volleyball

PHILIPPI - Walsh University rallied from a two-set deficit to defeat Alderson Broaddus University 3-2 (25-16, 25-21, 23-25, 23-25, 6-15) Tuesday night at Rex Pyles Arena.

The Cavaliers (2-1) were led by Krissy Sokol with 15 kills and Haley Howell with 33 assists. Kelly Miller compiled five block assists and a solo effort for Walsh.

Caitlin Cain and Jayla McCrary notched double-digit kills for the Battlers, while Kayla Peterson recorded 39 assists.

ABU will travel to the University of Charleston Tournament on Friday. The Battlers will open the tourney with a match against Edinboro at 11:30 a.m.

High school golf

Lewis takes match

ROANOKE - Three Lewis County High School golfers fired 48s, while the fourth fired a 49 Tuesday at the Stonewall Resort to help the Minutemen claim victory in a three-team Big 10 golf match.

Mark Moran, Conner Thomas and Ethan Hull all carded 12-over par rounds of 48, and Luke Pudder finished a stroke behind with a 49. Lewis County had a team total of 193, edging Liberty, 202; and Lincoln, 207.

Liberty's Jordan Rollyson fired a 10-over par 46 to take the low-medalist honors. Liberty was also aided by rounds of 51 from Ty Wickline and Bo Drummond, and a 54 from Chase Morris.

Lincoln was led by Andrew Lopez' 47.

Lewis County returns to the links today, traveling to the Bridgeport Country Club for a 4 p.m. match.
