Edwin M. Nestor, 91, of Washington Court House, Ohio, died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, at his home.

Ed or "Murl," as he was known by his family, was born April 16, 1922, in Nestorville, to the late Columbus and Lula Dell Nestor, the seventh of nine children.

He attended school in Barbour County and there met his future wife, Ada (nee Stemple) on the school bus. In 1942, he joined the U.S. Navy and serviced fighter aircraft in San Diego during the war years, achieving the rank of aircraft machinists mate, first class. In December 1945, he and Ada returned to West Virginia to begin life as small farmers. He soon entered West Virginia University where he completed his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in education. Later, he attended George Washington University and Miami University to complete his certificate in school administration.

He came to Washington C. H. in 1955 as a business teacher. The family first lived in an apartment in what is now the Fayette County Museum. During his 25 years with the Washington C. H. schools, he served as teacher, Dean of Boys, high school principal and superintendent. He briefly retired only to accept another position as superintendent of Upshur County Schools in Buckhannon where he and Ada enjoyed "going home" and serving for another five years.

Ed and Ada returned to Washington Court House to retire. Ed entered the real estate business and served on city council. He was a charter member and past president of the Washington Court House Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed tennis, biking, gardening and was a voracious reader. He also authored a series of books for his children describing his early life.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, three sisters, a son, Murl Jr. and a grandson, McCabe Pfeifer.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ada; two brothers, Dale Nestor of Poolesville, Md., and Carl Nestor of Philippi; and three children, Peggy Nestor and her husband, Mike Blevins, of Cincinnati; Marilyn and her husband, Moe Pfeifer, of Washington Court House, and John Nestor and his wife, Amy, of Washington Court House; and six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted Sunday, Sept. 15, at 3 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, 301 E. Market Street, Washington Court House, Ohio with Mel Wickensimer officiating. Friends may call at the church from 2 p.m. until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Fayette County, 222 N. Oakland Avenue, Washington Court House, Ohio.
