Woodford Oil in Elkins presented a major donation to the United Way of Randolph County Friday morning.

The $6,500 donation was part of a grant from BP's Fueling Communities Program, which provides grants to local organizations that are nominated by BP's Branded Marketers to support the communities in which they do business.

Fueling Communities gives back to local organizations that support health, education, youth, food and housing to spread charity and goodwill.

According to Woodford Oil's Todd Woodford, BP designated the money to Woodford, who in turn decided to turn it over to the United Way.

"We like how the United Way donates to 27 agencies in Randolph County," Woodford said. "They seemed like an ideal choice."

Gary Clay, a United Way of Randolph County board member, said that the money had to go to a nonprofit, nonreligious, non-political organization, and the United Way meets all of those criteria.

"We appreciate the donation," Clay said. "Woodford Oil has been good to us. They gave us a donation at our telethon last February that put us over our goal."
