The Tygarts Valley High School Class of 1968 celebrated the 45th reunion of the 45th graduating class Aug. 31 during a reception at the Hampton Inn. Class President Charles Collett welcomed former science teacher Bill White, who spoke to more than 60 classmates and guests, stating that Tygarts Valley High School was his first teaching assignment after graduating from Fairmont State College.
White served three years at TVHS before moving to Virginia to continue what became a 49-year teaching career that he completed in June. He recalled hunting ventures in Randolph County, basketball team travels, and brought laughter to the crowd as he mentioned his experiences as a new teacher. White noted that by teaching in Randolph County, he had returned to a place of his family heritage.
A buffet including Shrimp Newburg, roasted venison, rolled crabmeat omelet, complemented with a variety of cheeses and vegetables, featuring a dessert bar with tarts of roasted coconut, mango and key lime, was prepared by Chef Paula Gum Waters. Tables throughout the conference room featured centerpieces of tri-level school books, topped with flowering vines, centered with glowing candles, created by Shirley Holt Jordan. Class pictures were taken by Foto 1.
