MORGANTOWN - West Virginia carries a seven-game winning streak over Maryland heading into today's 3:30 p.m. game at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, and one Mountaineer is calling the Terrapins the new Pitt.

"It is a rivalry; it's just like playing Pitt," WVU defensive lineman Shaq Rowell said. "A lot of the other guys do not really know about this rivalry. We have played Maryland 49 times since 1919 and have beaten them the last seven times. I know Maryland will come out this weekend wanting to beat us."

WVU holds a 26-21-2 overall record in the border series. The last time Maryland defeated West Virginia, it did so twice in the same season. Maryland beat WVU 34-7 during the regular season, and the Mountaineers were somehow pitted against them again in the Gator Bowl. Maryland again came out on top again 41-7.

At the helm of the Terrapins' offense that season was transfer quarterback Scott McBrien, a former WVU quarterback who sought greener pastures after leaving Morgantown. McBrien will be back on the Maryland sidelines again Saturday, this time as a sideline reporter for the team's radio network.

Since 1980, the Mountaineers have a 28-19 record in stadiums that also house a professional football team. WVU is riding a five-game winning streak in professional football stadiums. Last year, the Mountaineers defeated James Madison at FedEx Field, the home of the Washington Redskins.

Linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski has led WVU or has tied for the lead in tackles in each of the team's first three games. He finished with nine tackles, including a sack, in the win over Georgia State last weekend.

"Being on top of that board is definitely something I pride myself on," he said. "I will try to keep it that way."

Twenty-one quarterbacks have seen action for Big 12 Conference teams through the first three weeks of the season. Iowa State is the lone team in which one quarterback has taken every snap.

Thirteen Big 12 players have recorded a 100-yard receiving game, and Kansas State's Tyler Lockett has done it twice. Nine players have recorded a 100-yard rushing game. West Virginia's Charles Sims and Baylor's Lache Seastrunk have each done so twice.
