Pucci’s hat trick lifts D&E past California (Pa.)

CALIFORNIA, Pa. - James Pucci found the back of the net with a hat-trick goal on a penalty kick in the 88th minute to pushDavis &?Elkins past California (Pa.), 3-2, on Saturday afternoon.

The Vulcans grabbed a 1-0 lead just three minutes into the game on a goal by Chris Hunkele. Cal's Brad Colvin tacked on a second goal four minutes later to make it 2-0 at halftime.

Pucci drove home his first goal three minutes into the second half to cut the deficit to 2-1, and drilled the equalizer 20 minutes later. He capped off the day with a penalty kick to seal the victory.

Cameron Rivera earned his second win in as many starts in goal.

D&E will host Gannon at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Notre Dame (Ohio) 3

SOUTH?EUCLID, Ohio - West Virginia Wesleyan lost a 3-0 decision to Mountain East Conference foe Notre Dame (Ohio) Saturday in men's soccer action.

Wesleyan (2-3-1) will entertain Shepherd at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

Women's soccer

Slippery Rock 1, D&E 0

Slippery Rock held a 13-2 advantage on shots on goal in taking a 1-0 win over Davis &?Elkins Saturday at Harpertown fields.

Dara Demich had the lone goal of the game in the 8th minute.

D&E will travel to Bloomsburg (Pa.) at 4 p.m. on Thursday.

Notre Dame (Ohio) 2

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio - West Virginia Wesleyan dropped a 2-0 decision to Notre Dame (Ohio) Saturday in Mountain East Confernce play.

The Bobcats (2-3-1) will return to action at 4 p.m. Wednesday against Shepherd for a league tilt.

College volleyball

D&E Classic ends

The Davis & Elkins Classic concluded on Saturday afternoon at the McDonnell Center.

The Senators were swept by Seton Hill, 3-0 (25-12, 25-18, 25-14), but bounced back for a 3-1 (25-10, 16-25, 25-21, 25-22) win over Glenville State.

Alexis Morier posted seven kills against the Griffins. Haylee Murray finished with 11 assists against SHU.

Natalie Mathieu blasted 12 kills versus the Pioneers, while Mourier added 11 kills. Alicia Stokes notched 27 assists, and Murray registered 17 assists.

The Griffins topped Bluefield to start the day, while Alderson Broaddus downed Glenville State. The Pioneers and Battlers each posted wins over the Blues on Saturday.

Kayla Peterson recorded 28 assists and seven kills to lead the Battlers over Glenville State, while Tarren Thatcher hit .857 and finished with six kills and Lauren Rogers tallied 12 assists and two digs in the victory over Bluefield State.

D&E will travels to West Virginia Tech on Oct. 1, while AB will visit Wesleyan at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

College cross country

D&E men place seventh

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The Davis &?Elkins College cross country team competed at the Cedarville Friendship Invitational on Saturday.

The Senator men placed seventh, while the women were 10th.

Tommy Boone led the D&E men with a 19th-place finish (26:42.34).

Cedarville claimed the team title with a score of 19, led by Matt Brooker, who finished first.

Ellen Cantaral led the way for the Senators in the women's race with a 32nd-place showing.

Dayton took the top spot with a score of 16 as Lizzie Gleasons1 placed first.

The D&E teams will return to the course Saturday at the Dickinson Invitational in Carlisle, Pa.
