TENNERTON - Elkins placed four runners in the top 10 to capture the Buccaneer Invitational Tuesday at Buckhannon-Upshur High School.
Austin Hamrick cleared the course in a time of 18:07 to pace the Tigers with a second-place showing. Teammate Matt Wallace was third (18:47), followed by Dalton Hamrick in seventh (19:26) and Ben Huffman in 10th (19:53).
Other EHS runners included Brendan Wallace 17th (21:05), Dylan Dilly 29th (22:53) and Jacob Earle 31st (23:10).
The Tigers finished with 37 points, followed by Webster County (64), B-U (94), Trinity (94), East Fairmont (110), Liberty (125) and Lewis County (125).
Webster County's Brettley Harris captured first with a time of 17:43. Nathan Louk led the Minutemen with a fifth-place showing, while Chad Christenson placed 12th for the Bucs.
Trinity won the girls' race with 42 points, followed by B-U (44), East Fairmont (56) and Elkins (77).
Trinity's Piper McLaughlin won the race in a time of 23:22.
Laura Dean finished third for the Bucs.
The Tigers were led by Hannah Gongola, who took 10th in a time of 25:08. Kathlyne Simmons,was 12th (25:14), Monica Rossi 19th (27:01), Sophie Hummer 23rd (27:45), Emily Chewning 31st (29:43), Katy Ross 32nd (29:50) and Jaycee Saseen 33rd (30:12).
"It was great for the boys to pull off a win," Elkins coach Shellie Burda said. "The younger boys really picked it up today. I just want them to continue to improve.
"The girls did well and it was nice to see Hannah get in the top 10."
Elkins will return to action at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Big 10 Conference Preview at Preston High School.
