Elkins High School's National Honor Society will be holding a yard sale this Saturday, Oct. 12, from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Reliable Roofing parking lot in the Industrial Park. The money raised will be used toward scholarships that will go to three college-bound seniors at the end of the 2013-2014 school year.
Items available at Saturday's yard sale will include board games, books, an electronic keyboard with stand, a blacklight, a Dell printer and much more. Baked goods will also be available for purchase.
The National Honor Society is a service-based organization with chapters across the country. After attaining a GPA of 3.4, juniors and seniors can become eligible to join the Society by participating in extracurricular activities, completing community service projects and demonstrating leadership.
Throughout the school year, National Honor Society will hold many fundraisers, including a silent auction and a pancake breakfast. The money will go to three scholarship funds; one will go to a NHS member in good standing with the Society, one will go to a nonmember with at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA, and one, in memory of Brian Linn, will go to a student interested in pursuing a degree in criminal justice or a related field.
