Mr. John Osler Darnell Sr., 63, of Grandview Ave., Belington, departed this life Wednesday evening, Oct. 9, 2013, at his home, and death was unexpected.
He was born April 9, 1950, at Digman community, Nestorville, W.Va, a son of the late John Albert and Mabel Virginia (Arnold) Darnell.
He is survived by three children, John Darnell Jr. and wife, Lisa, of Ashville, Ohio, Ricky Darnell of Ashville, Ohio, and Melissa Shahan and husband, Jeff, of Belington, W.Va.; and four sisters, Louise Righman of Moatsville, W.Va., Allie Lou Raymond of Gainesville, Fla., Shirley Duke of Murrieta, Calif., and Lillian White of Parsons. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one infant son, Rocky L. Darnell; two brothers, Donald D. Darnell and infant, Lee Roy Darnell; four sisters, Georgia Young, Josephine Nestor, Mildred Moore and infant, Sarah Darnell.
Mr. Darnell attended the schools of Barbour County and retired from the IBEW Union Local 17 after 46 years of service, where he worked many years as a journeyman lineman. He attended the First United Methodist Church at Parsons and was a Methodist by faith.
Friends will be received at Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 5 to 9 p.m. today, and the family also will receive friends Sunday 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., the funeral hour when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Downing Gregory officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery near Nestorville.
