Elkins warns of discolored water

October 18, 2013
The Inter-Mountain

There was a power surge at the Elkins Water Treatment Plant Thursday. Customers may experience discolored water. A boil water advisory has not been issued.

When the Water Distribution department is flushing water lines or when the Water Treatment plant experiences a power surge, customers may experience discolored water. To clear the water, allow it to run in your bathtub or sink for 20-30 minutes; if your water isn't clear after this, wait an hour and try it again.

Use caution before doing laundry, especially with light-colored items. If your laundry becomes stained due to discolored water you may contact the City of Elkins Water Department, located on Baxter Street (304-636-6566), to obtain a chemical to help remove the stains.
