BUCKHANNON - Jeremy Musselman threw for 393 yards and three scores as Wesleyan claimed a 38-21 win over West Liberty Saturday in MEC play at Cebe Ross Field.
Musselman completed 29 of 41 passes on the afternoon with no interceptions. He connected with freshman Zach Shademan eight times for 208 yards and a pair of scores - 41 and 68 yards.
Michael Anderson had a 4-yard run to give the Bobcats an early 7-0 lead.
After the Hilltoppers tied the game on quarterback Dylan Lagarde's 1-yard sneak, Musselman hit Shademan for the first of his two receiving touchdowns.
West Liberty tied the game before halftime on another 1-yard run by Lagarde before Wesleyan used a 32-yard field goal by Kasper Bernild to regain a three-point cushion.
The Hilltoppers again answered when Lagarde hit Dylan Potts for a 17-yard score to give the visitors their lone lead of the game at 21-17.
Shademan's 68-yard TD reception late in the third quarter was followed by a 1-yard run by Musselman, who later hit Connor Arlia from 8 yards out to end the scoring in the final quarter.
Anderson finished with 60 yards on 19 attempts to lead the Bobcats ground game. Lavaughn Hughes also has 10 receptions for 97 yards and Arlia five for 48.
Lagarde completed 17 of 34 passes for 177 yards in a losing effort.
Potts had 53 yards receiving on three catches, while Marty Bishop logged 108 yards rushing on 18 attempts.
Wesleyan (2-5, 3-4 MEC will return to action Thursday at Fairmont State. West Liberty dropped to 3-5 overall and 3-3 in the MEC with the loss.
