ELKINS - For the third-straight year, the Rotary Club of Elkins will bring a night of music to area residents with the Polio Plus Concert on Veteran's Day.
The show will feature a performance by the West Virginia Highlanders of Davis & Elkins College, who will offer a special musical salute to veterans of all branches of the armed services.
The event, scheduled for Nov. 11 at the Elkins High School auditorium, is billed as an evening of family entertainment. A variety of other acts are on the lineup card as rock, bluegrass, jazz, pop and gospel music will be featured throughout the evening.
"Our first Polio Plus Concert was held on Veteran's Day, 2011 and was a huge success," said Bob Dunkerley, event chairman. "We hope to once again touch the heartstrings of our community and provide an evening of sensational family entertainment - all for a great cause."
"The celebration of the inspirational service provided by our veterans is the motivation to share this time by the Elkins Rotary Club, helping to raise awareness and funds for the eradication of polio from our plant," Dunkerley added in a press release.
The concert is scheduled to start at 7 p.m., with doors to the high school auditorium set to open at 6:30 p.m.
Tickets for the event are available from any Rotarian and at selected business in Elkins. Ticket prices are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. All seats are general admission.
"The acts of selfless service our veterans gave our country are the models for many civic, faith-based and philanthropic service organizations," Dunkerley said. "Such is the case for all Rotarians around the world: Service Above Self."
