Santa’s Workshop welcomes children

A special treat is in store for children and their little feathered friends Saturday during Santa's Workshop in downtown Elkins.

Children can make pine cone bird feeders at Good Energy Foods from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. The workshop is provided by members of Alpha Delta Kappa sorority.

Alex Gartman, owner of Good Energy Foods, said he is looking forward to greeting children and families.

"Kids are welcome to come and enjoy this very popular activity," Gartman said. "The bird feeders are not only fun to make, but fun to watch at home." Good Energy Foods is located at 214 Third St.

Other downtown businesses will host activities for children from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

Children's portraits will be made by Gold Dome Photography at Talbott Frameshop, at 220 Third St. The perfect gift for grandparents and other family members, portraits may also be framed during the activity.

A sing-a-long of popular holiday songs will be presented at Kissel Stop Cafe at 23 Third St. Live music will also be offered at Clara Belle's at 320 Davis Ave. Parents can enjoy relaxing with a beverage from the cafe menus while children are entertained.

Main Line Books will host story time for youngsters while parents browse at the book store located on the corner of Davis Avenue and Third Street.

Santa's Workshop activities are also planned at participating businesses on Friday.

From 2 to 4 p.m., children can make reindeer antlers to wear while parents shop at Hopscotch, at 117 Third St. They can also make ornaments at the Ice Cream Train, at 212 Davis Ave.

Cookie decorating will be offered Friday afternoon at Henry G's at 110 Third St. Cookies will be baked and served with a drink.

Located on the corner of Second Street at Davis Avenue, Terri's Shear Magic will welcome youngsters for nail painting and hair glamorizing from 5 to 7 p.m.

Other Friday evening activities include ornament making at Elkins City Hall, at 400 Davis Ave., and story time with Mrs. Claus at Clara Belle's, 320 Davis Ave.

Santa's Workshop welcomes children 12 years of age and younger to participate in all activities. Many activities are free of charge. A minimal fee of $5 or less per child may be charged to cover expenses for others. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Sponsored by Elkins ON TRAC and participating businesses, Santa's Workshop will continue on Fridays and Saturdays through Dec. 14.
