BUCKHANNON - Tucked away in a small building across from Buckhannon City Hall is a new store called the Thrifty Nifty Shop and Upshur Flavored E-Cigs.
Although the shop is a thrift store, the owner said she wanted to offer a local place to purchase new electronic cigarettes, and the smokable liquids that accompany them.
"We're the cheapest you can buy by far; They're double everywhere else," Owner Jennifer Sweeney said.
Thrifty Nifty offers the e-cigs for $49.99. Sweeney said that other locations sell the same e-cigs for $79.99 to $149.99. Until the end of November, Thrifty Nifty is running a special on the e-cigs and the smokable liquids that go with them. Customers who purchase one can get another for half price. Flavored liquids for the e-cigs are $6.99 at Thrifty Nifty.
"We're excited," Sweeney said. "We just wanted something to offer the community; cheaper prices, a better way to live. I'm tired of going in thrift shops and you can't get a pair of jeans under $6. That's crazy."
Sweeney said the electronic cigarette alternative provides a healthier way for smokers to continue smoking or to fight the addiction. The electronic versions do not include tar, tobacco products or added chemicals that could be toxic to smokers. Sweeney said the liquids for e-cigs include only the nicotine and the flavoring.
Thrifty Nifty offers 13 flavors - vanilla, grape, raspberry, watermelon, strawberry, blueberry, peach, chocolate, cappuccino, coconut, Red Bull, licorice and peppermint. Liquids can even be mixed and matched for a custom-flavor combination like mint chocolate or vanilla cappuccino. Flavors also come in nicotine-free options for those who have reduced or eliminated their addiction, but still feel a need to smoke.
The flavored vapor-producing liquids are designed to last longer than a regular cigarette, and Sweeney said that over time, they are much cheaper than actual cigarettes.
The shop carries some furniture, small appliances, shoes, purses, home decor, clothing and housewares. Donations of items also are welcome. Call 704-960-0654 to find out more about donating or to ask about a particular item.
Store hours are from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday-Saturday. The store first opened Oct. 17. For the time being, the shop only accepts cash transactions.
