Late Thursday night, the onslaught officially begins.
No, it's not the rush to the refrigerator for leftover turkey sandwiches - although some will partake in that tradition, too. It's not even the battle for the television remote to seek out the most interesting program on the tube. It's the now time-honored race to local retailers to scoop up the most valuable Black Friday deals.
Over the past several years, retailers have thrown their doors open earlier and earlier. Although this diminishes the true meaning and intent of the holiday season, Black Friday shopping sprees slowly have become a ritual in many households around the country - and in our own backyard.
The day not only officially marks the beginning of the Christmas shopping season, but it is the start of the time of year when many businesses go from operating in the red to making a profit.
Again this year, The Inter-Mountain will offer a plethora of advertising inserts in its Wild Wednesday edition with a vast amount of savings that even would make Santa Claus blush. More than 20 businesses will be included, a full two days before the official launch of the busy shopping season.
This year's Wild Wednesday advertising inserts include: Peebles, Big Lots, CVS, Innovative Mattress, Family Dollar, Dick's Sporting Goods, Walgreens, Walmart, U.S. Cellular, Lowes, Sears, Rite Aid, Southern States, Ntelos, Radio Shack, Advance Hearing, Davis Health System, Caplans and a pair of Kmart flyers totaling 76 pages of values.
Included in these circulars will be more than $127,000 in potential savings.
The Wild Wednesday edition will hit the streets early Wednesday afternoon and will be available at a variety of locations, including The Inter-Mountain office at 520 Railroad Ave. in Elkins.
Other top vending locations include: Both Go Mart locations in Elkins, Walmart in Elkins, Bob's Mini Market in Mill Creek, Lynn's Chevron in Elkins, Shop 'N Save in Belington, Speedway in Elkins, Sheetz in Belington, Mountaineer Mart in Buckhannon, Fast Break in Beverly, Par Mar in Beverly, Bobbi's in Beverly, Sheetz in Parsons, both Par Mar locations in Elkins, Campbell's Market in Beverly, Shop 'N Save in Parsons Rich Oil in Elkins, Kroger in Elkins, Station 1 in Junior, Sheetz in Buckhannon, IGA in Mill Creek, Shop 'N Save in Elkins, Sheetz in Philippi and Shop 'N Save in Davis.
With all the savings, there is sure to be something for everyone.
The Inter-Mountain, though, urges residents not to forget local businesses in their shopping endeavors.
We also request that you show patience when driving and shopping this holiday season.
Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving - and Black Friday, too.
