William Howard "Dewey" Dean, 83, of Buckhannon, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born July 18, 1930, in Buckhannon, the son of the late Dewey Dean and Beulah Strader. On Jan. 24, 1957, he married Leona Black who survives. Leona was the light of his life and faithful companion.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters, Vonda Brandt and husband, Terry, of Buckhannon, and Sandy Lantz and husband, Darrell, of Stonewood; two sons, William Joseph Dean, of Buckhannon, and David Dean and wife, Dana, of Morgantown; four granddaughters, Kelly Brandt, of San Francisco, Calif. Kimberly Brandt, of Buckhannon, and Meredith and Victoria Dean both of Morgantown; five grandsons, Rick Dotson of Fla., Patrick Brandt, of Morgantown, Joshua Dean and wife, Amanda, of Memphis, Tenn, Jeremiah Dean and wife, Adele, of Uniontown, Pa., and Joseph Dean of Chattanooga, Tenn.; three great-granddaughters, Grace Dean, of Memphis, and Kaylee and Lily Phipps, both of Buckhannon; two great grandsons, Jacob Dotson, of Fla., and Blaze Phipps, of Buckhannon; three sisters, Betty Jean Curtis and husband, Norman, of Warren, Ohio, Marilyn Knicely and husband, Bob, of Buckhannon, and Nancy Pope and husband, Joe, of Parkersburg; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Margaret Mercer. William was affectionately known as "Dewey" to his friends and family.
He was a man of religious faith, a hard worker and retired as head grocery clerk at Kroger after 35 and a half years of service. He was an avid sports fan, and especially enjoyed Mountaineer football and Pittsburgh Pirates
Friends will be received Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, from 5-8 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Donald Butcher officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Tallmansville.
