Elkins ON TRAC will host a community Christmas carol sing at Third Street and Davis Avenue from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday as part of First Friday activities. A section of Third Street will be closed to vehicular traffic.
Choir members from Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church and First United Methodist Church will help lead the singing. Others, including school groups, families and individuals who love to sing, are invited to participate.
Karen Carper, project manager for Elkins ON TRAC, said, "We are hoping to create a spontaneous and joyful chorus, the more the merrier."
Instrumental accompaniment such as guitars, fiddles, banjos and dulcimers, also is welcome, Carper said.
A limited number of carol books and song sheets will be available. Anyone who has such materials is asked to bring their own and extras to share if possible.
Participants should dress appropriately for the weather and bring small flashlights.
Carolers may also walk through town to serenade patrons of downtown restaurants and businesses that remain open for the First Friday celebration.
Hot apple cider will be available at Henry G's, 110 Third St. Weather permitting, Beander's will pop kettle corn outside the restaurant at 314 Davis Ave. Other restaurants, including C.J. Maggie's and Clara Belle's, will be open.
In the event of rain, singers will gather indoors at the Seneca Mall Atrium.
