Hit-and-run victim listed as critical

ELKINS - A young man struck in an alleged hit-and-run accident Friday was in critical condition Monday, hospital officials said.

Joseph Browning, 18, was injured when he was struck by a driver in Beverly Friday. He was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown where he is being treated for injuries.

Matthew Blake, 32, of Junior, was arrested on one count of DUI causing personal injury, one count of leaving the scene of an accident, one count of possession of a controlled substance and one count of first possession of marijuana less than 15 grams, all misdemeanors.

Blake is being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on $30,000 bond.

West Virginia State Police officials said Blake was driving north on Rt. 219 outside of Beverly and allegedly struck Browning, who was walking on the shoulder with another person, according to media

accounts.
