To the citizens of Elkins and Randolph County,
When the Randolph County Service Unit opened its doors in 1996, Major DeRue Hoffman of the Grafton Corps, who was in charge at that time, gave us the opportunity to serve the people of Randolph County by overseeing the operation of the office.
We want to thank Ladonna Frost and her late husband John for the many hours they donated in the beginning by having the office open one day a week. We also want to thank the people for putting their trust in The Salvation Army and excepting us into the community.
The office staff is all strictly volunteers. We want to thank Dixie Martin and Beverly Hammer of the Degree of Honor for the many hours they put in during the years. We want to thank Lora and Steve Hedrick for the many hours they put in, especially during the Christmas Season and in their food drive.
We have a food pantry and are always having to keep it stocked. Thank you to Big Lots for the food they give throughout the year. We want to thank the businesses that let us put up our Angel Trees and those that let us ring bells in front of their establishment, and for those that collected toys and food at Christmas.
We operate on donations alone and we say a big thank you to everyone who puts money in the Christmas kettles and also for those that donate through our mail appeal year-round. No matter how small or large the gift, when it all comes together it can benefit many people!
The Salvation Army is not only there in the face of disaster and Christmas, but we are there to help with the small everyday problems that come up and the little things that change people's lives.
In supporting The Salvation Army you are simply helping your neighbor! I commend you for the support you have shown us in the past 17 years. You will never know how many lives have been touched due to your generosity! The citizens of Elkins and Randolph County are blessed to live in a community that cares for each other.
Bonnie (88) and I (82) will no longer be in the office due to our health. I pray you will continue to support Rebecca Gower, who will be replacing us in the office so the Salvation Army can continue the services we have been giving for the past 17 years. Thank you and may God bless you abundantly!
We count it a privilege and an honor to have served you.
