Charles Edward "Smoke" Toms, 77, of Pickens, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2013.
He was born Aug. 3, 1936, in Pickens, a son of the late Charles Burner and Mary Elizabeth Wasmer Toms.
He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Ralph Hull; three brothers, Paul Burner "Bub", Bert Russell "Kelly" and James Ray Toms; and one nephew, Timothy Russell Toms.
Surviving are two brothers, Nelson O. "Squint" Toms of Weston and David R. Hull of Helvetia; three sisters, Hannah Sutton of Lost Creek, Donna Cogar of French Creek and Connie Harper of Harrisonburg, Va.; special cousin. Jerry Hull; several nieces and nephews; and special friends. Joe and Lucy Cooper and Mike and Tonia Tiffner and family.
He was a 1954 graduate of Pickens High School and a member of the Pickens High School Alumni Association. He was a member of the Pickens Baptist Church and was very active in the Pickens Community.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel in Buckhannon. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013, at from the funeral chapel with Pastor Jeff Swecker officiating. Following the service, the body will be cremated.
