Jack Gibbons, artist in residence at Davis & Elkins College, was the star during the holiday dinner meeting of the General Federation of Women's Clubs - Woman's Club of Elkins in the First United Methodist Church Tuesday evening.
Gibbons, who has performed at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and Carnegie Hall in New York City and at Queen Elizabeth and Albert Hall in London, has been described as one of England's most exciting young pianists.
He was brought here because of an appreciation for Gershwin's musical arrangements, and his performance included pieces such as "Rhapsody in Blue," a Gershwin trademark.
Jack Gibbons delights members of the Woman’s Club of Elkins at their December program. One member said, ‘You can understand why he is an international celebrity, and to think, he lives here in Elkins.’
Gibbons noted that both of his parents were amateur musicians. His mother sang and his father introduced him to German Christmas carols at a young age.
Additional evening entertainment was provided by the First Baptist Church Baptist Belles, who played Christmas selections during the evening meal. The nine bell-ringers were led by Deb Super, music chairman of the Woman's Club.
Also during the meeting, Marijane Kiley, chairman of the Arts and Crafts Fair, announced that fundraising goals from club projects during the October Show had
