Maura Louise Conti has been named a Barbour County Chamber Scholar and is the recipient of a $500 academic scholarship, one of nine scholarships she received at graduation from high school.

The scholarship was presented by Rich Mace of Mace's Pharmacy, chairman of the Chamber's Education Committee and chairman of the Scholarship Committee of the Barbour County Community Foundation.

Maura is a native of Philippi and the daughter of Robert Conti. She graduated magna cum laude and second in her class at Philip Barbour High School.

She is enrolled at Fairmont State University where she expects to major in physical therapy. She was a member of the PBHS Student Council, National Honor Society, Friends of Rachel Club, and Captain of the Lady Colts soccer team.

She has created art pieces that have earned her several trophies and medals. In 2011, her work was recognized by the Arts Alive Program, which honors the best student art in West Virginia.

While at Philip Barbour, she participated in singing competitions, helped renovate the school complex, participated in food and blood drives, and volunteered at the Animal Friends of Barbour County animal shelter and at the Bridgeport Mission.

She was employed at Philippi's Dairy King and is a member of the All Saints Church choir.
