Bulldogs garner win over Union

Tucker coasts past Cougars; Wildcats cruise

MT. STORM - Sophomore Ben Sycafoose hit for 19 points Friday night to pace Tygarts Valley past Union, 72-47.

"Our shooting is starting to come around," TVHS coach Tom Wamsley said. "Winning a game like this, with four scorers in double digits, is really good to see. Our kids got in a rhythm and jumped out early. We kept the lead by a large margin for most of the game."

Other top scorers for the Bulldogs were Tyler Shiflett with 18 points, and Jace Kyle and Keighan Chewning with 12 points each.

Union was led by Travis Murphy with 17 points and Candon Curry with 14 points.

The Bulldogs (2-1) will host East Hardy at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Tucker County 79

East Hardy ..... 40

HAMBLETON - Tucker County had four players reach double digits in scoring Friday while cruising to a 79-40 win over East Hardy in PVC play.

Senior Ian Nichols paced the Mountain Lions with 16 points, while Austin Zirk and Chase Alkire contributed 11 points each, and Marcus Mason scored 10 points. Seth Evans led the team with eight rebounds and Mitchell Mason pulled down seven rebounds.

"We got off to a slow start, but overall we played good," TCHS coach Tom Gutshall said. "A lot of different kids got to play tonight, so it was a good experience. We were well balanced in scoring. We got a lot of easy transition baskets and offensive rebounds. The kids played hard and gave a good effort."

Tucker County (3-1) will play Philip Barbour on Friday at the Elkins Holiday Tournament. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. East Hardy will return to action at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Tygarts Valley for a PVC tilt.

Pendleton County 64

Pocahontas County 57

DUNMORE - Evan Arrington scored 20 points to lead Pendleton County to victory over Pocahontas County, 64-57, Friday evening in PVC action.

"I'm proud of our senior leadership," Pendleton coach Ryan Lambert said.

"Pocahontas had a few nice runs, where they made timely adjustments, but we weathered the storm. We executed our game plan and that was the key to us winning. It was a good early win for us."

Other team leaders for the Wildcats included sophomore Logan Cooper with 18 points and seven rebounds, and senior Cody Lambert with five points and eight rebounds. Arrington also contributed 13 rebounds.

For Pocahontas County, Ryan Dilley scored 14 points and Cary Robertson added 11 points.

Pendleton County (3-1) will host Buffalo at 2 p.m. today. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. Pocahontas (1-1) is scheduled to entertain Buckhannon-Upshur at 3:30 p.m. today.

Buffalo 59, Moorefield 47

MOOREFIELD?- Buffalo used a strong first quarter in taking a 59-47 win over Moorefield on Friday night.

The Bison jumped out to a 23-6 lead after one quarter behind the shooting of Joseph Good, who knocked down four of his five three-pointers on the night in the opening canto.

"We played awful in the first quarter," Yellow Jackets coach Pat McGregor said. "We missed at least six wide-open layups and couldn't make any shots."

Moorefield outscored Buffalo 41-36 after the opening canto.

Good finished with 17 points to lead the winners. Aaron Lewis chipped in with 14 and John Hodges 11.

Aaron Cole tallied 12 points for the Yellow Jackets, followed by Austin Williams with 11 and Greg Franklin with 10 points and six rebounds.

Moorefield (1-2) will host Pocahontas County at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

The Bison improved to 2-1 and will travel to Pendleton County at 2 p.m. today.
