GRAFTON - Sophomore Hannah Griffith scored 16 points to crown Grafton champions of the Sam Bord Memorial Tournament on Friday. The Bearcats defeated Philip Barbour, 48-27, en route to the title.
"Again, we played solid defense," PBHS coach Stan Fitzwater said. "We're just not putting the ball in the hole. Once it starts going, things are going to happen. We were 10 for 49 shooting, so we're getting shots. We're just not putting them in the basket. We played against a quality team, though. I'm happy with the girls' hustle and intensity. They were just a better ball club than us tonight."
Brook Pomp paced the Colts with nine points and 11 rebounds.
Chelsea Mayle added eight points and Celeste Kelly grabbed four rebounds.
Mayle and Kelly were both named to the All-Tournament team.
"They both play hard," Fitzwater said. "Celeste is our only senior and she's a great leader. Chelsea is our sixth man. She's the first off the bench. She's got a lot of potential. She's really going to be tough down the road."
The Colts (3-5) will return to action at 7:30 p.m. on Jan 2 against Big 10 Conference rival Robert C. Byrd.
