PETERSBURG - Ten players found their way into the scoring column for Petersburg Saturday en route to a 69-63 win over Pendleton County in the Petersburg Holiday Tournament Championship game.

"The story of the night was how they distributed the ball," Pendleton County coach Ryan Lambert said. "We made a nice run in the fourth quarter, but the hole was already too big. The bottom line was they made a few more plays than we did. They outplayed us and they deserved to win."

For the Wildcats, Evan Arrington fired in a career-high 30 points. Sophomore Logan Cooper also added 13 points and five assists, and senior Hayden Fox scored 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Junior Brian George led the Vikings with 15 points. Trevor Harman and Jace Shanholtz added 11 each.

Pendleton County will return to action at 7:30 p.m. Friday at home against Highland County (Va.).

Petersburg will visit Lincoln on the same evening.

Bath County (Va.) 44

PETERSBURG?- Junior Aaron Cole lit up the Bath County (Va.) defense for 26 points to power Moorefield to a 68-44 victory in the consolation round of the Petersburg Holiday Tournament on Saturday.

"It was one of the best defensive efforts we've given this season," Yellow Jackets coach Pat McGregor said. "We played very aggressive. We had 21 steals. We put a lot of pressure on them and they just couldn't overcome it."

While McGregor was impressed with Cole's effort, he said Austin Williams made three "crucial" 3-pointers in the second quarter to give the Yellow Jackets an 11-point advantage at the half.

"(Williams) had a great game early," McGregor said. "He helped us to a nice lead at halftime."

Junior Dakota Vetter also contributed eight points, seven rebounds and six steals in a winning effort.

Moorefield will entertain county and PVC rival East Hardy at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
