Area basketball teams will return to hardwood this evening

With the holiday season over, area teams will begin the new year today with a full slate of action.

College squads also return from break, as Davis &?Elkins and Alderson Broaddus will both host G-MAC opponents in men's and women's doubleheaders.

The Senators face Ohio Valley, starting with the women's contest at 5:30 p.m., while the Battlers welcome Salem International.

In high school girls basketball action, Lewis County visits Elkins for a Big 10 Conference contest, Philip Barbour hosts Big 10 foe Robert C. Byrd, East Hardy visits Union, Moorefield travels to Northern Garrett (Md.) and Pocahontas County ventures to Bath County (Va.).

The lone boys game on the card is Pocahontas County at home against Bath County.

Friday will feature another busy night of games.

High school boys basketball contests on tap include Elkins at Big 10 foe Lewis County, Philip Barbour at Robert C. Byrd, Tygarts Valley at Harman, Notre Dame at Tucker County, East Hardy at Moorefield, Highland County (Va.) at Pendleton County and Petersburg at Lincoln.

In girls action, Harman hosts Tygarts Valley, Tucker County entertains Notre Dame, Charleston Catholic visits Pocahontas County and Pendleton County will compete in the Spring Mills Invitational.

Elkins Middle School, meanwhile, will host Kasson in boys and girls play.
