2013: YEAR IN REVIEW

Last year saw tragedies, successes

January 2, 2014
The Inter-Mountain

After turning the page on another year, The Inter-Mountain looks back at the biggest stories of 2013.

While many of the events that dominated the headlines involved immense tragedies like the train accident in southern Randolph County and the Central Street fire, there also were many positive happenings that will impact lives for the better for many years to come.

In 2013, Elkins elected a new mayor - Van Broughton - who already has made a difference in city politics.

Also, Davis & Elkins College continued to make improvements that not only present opportunities for its student body, but also the city and surrounding areas.

Last year also saw its fair share of controversies, including the serving of a plain cheese sandwich to Barbour County Schools students for lunch.
