DUNMORE - Ian Nichols surpassed 1,000 points for his career Saturday, as Tucker County pummelled Pocahontas County, 72-27, in a Potomac Valley Conference matchup.
"Our defense played really well," TCHS coach Tom Gutshall said. "We controlled the rebounds and controlled the boards and that took them out of the game. They just couldn't keep up with our tempo."
Nichols scored 31 points and added 14 rebounds during the contest. Austin Zirk contributed nine points and six assists, while Chase Alkire scored seven points.

Tucker County’s Ian Nichols scored his 1,000th career point during a win over Pocahontas County on Saturday.
"He's been playing really well," Gutshall said of Nichols passing 1,000 career points. "He's an authentic ball player. He's one of the best players in the state in Class A ball. He's a hard worker. He plays inside and outside. He really does a lot of good things for the team. He's very unselfish and that makes him a great teammate."
Dalton Irvine led Pocahontas in scoring with seven points. Jimmy Hensler added five points.
The Mountain Lions (6-1) will return to action at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Southern Garrett, Md. The Warriors (1-4) are slated to host Tygarts Valley at 7:30 p.m. today.
