Public is the 10th partner

January 30, 2014
The Inter-Mountain

Nine agencies are collaborating to form the Mountain Region Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force, but the 10th partner might be the most important -you.

"There are only so many sets of eyes and ears on this task force,"U.S. Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld II said Monday during the official public announcement of the new unit in Elkins. "We can only see so much and hear so much, so we need the public to help us go after drug activity in our communities and neighborhoods."

In order to give the public - that "critical partner," as Ihlenfeld put it - every opportunity to help, a tip line has been created.

Residents who would like to report suspected drug-related activity are urged to call the special tip line that has been set up for the task force - 304-636-TIPS (8477). A website is being developed and will soon launch.

"This is a great day for this region," Ihlenfeld said Monday, but added that "it's not such a great day for those who traffic drugs in the region."

The key to fighting the drug problem is cooperation, and with the new Task Force's tip line, the public can do its part.
