FAYETTEVILLE - Tasheem Saunders and William Fenton reached double digits in scoring to advance Fayetteville to the second round of the West Virginia Hometown Invitational Tournament Friday with a win over Tygarts Valley, 71-60.
"It was disappointing to come out to such a slow start," TVHS coach Tom Wamsley said. "We never really got it going. It seemed like we were a step slow all night. We weren't getting loose balls and it ended up hurting us. We just didn't make plays and it bit us."
Ben Sycafoose led the Bulldogs in scoring with 17 points. Sophomore Jace Kyle added 16 points and Derrick Villarico scored 12 points.
For the Pirates, Fenton scored 19 points and Saunders added 17.
Tygarts Valley will host Moorefield at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
Pendleton 58, Harman 39
HARMAN - Evan Arrington fired in 22 points Friday to lift Pendleton County over Harman, 58-39, in PVC action.
"Harman came out in a very methodical zone," PCHS coach Ryan Lambert said. "They had a good game plan from the get go. We had to make adjustments. We weren't getting good looks at the basket. We adjusted and that was the key. I felt our defense played huge. We held them to 16 points in the first half. We just weren't knocking shots down. We were a little rusty. It is good knowing that we can hang our hats on our defense."
Logan Cooper scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds for the Wildcats. Haden Fox added nine points and 11 rebounds.
Junior Joshua Shifflett paced Harman with 17 points. Center Casey Elza added 10 points.
Pendleton will travels to Shenandoah Valley Academy, Va., on Tuesday.
