Bishop’s 41 sink Warriors

DUNMORE - Julie Bishop exploded for 41 points to power Class A, No. 3 Gilmer County past Class A, No. 4 Pocahontas County, 62-51, in the semi final round of the West Virginia Hometown Invitational Tournament.

The win advances Gilmer County (12-2) to the WVHIT Division I championship game against St. Mary's High School. Tip off is set for 9 p.m. today at St. Mary's.

During the game, Bishop nailed seven three-pointers and was a perfect eight of eight from the free throw line.

Junior guard Tristin Day paced the Warriors with 21 points. She also collected two assists and three steals. Melissa Murphy, Sarah Ryder and Bobbie McNabb also scored nine points each.

Pocahontas County (9-4) will now play Tygarts Valley in the consolation round of the WVHIT at 5:30 p.m. today at St. Mary's High School.

Middle school girls

Elkins falls

PARSONS- Sydney Nestor hit for 18 points to push Tucker Valley Middle School past Elkins Middle School, 45-33.

"I think we played extremely well, given the caliber team Tucker Valley has," EMS coach Shane Richardson said. "I think it was the best game we played to date. The girls hustled well and played physical. They played together as a team and I couldn't ask for anything more."

Taylor Maynard paced the Hornets in scoring with 15 points. Susan Riggleman scored six points and Lauren Sylvester added five points and six rebounds.

In junior varsity action, Elkins defeated Tucker, 23-22.

Gracee Huffman led the Hornets in scoring with 15 points and Riley Evans scored 10 points for Tucker County.
