MILL CREEK - The second "Bringing Hope One Basket at a Time," cancer awareness game is set for Thursday at Tygarts Valley High School. The Lady Bulldogs will face Union High School at 7:30 p.m.
"We encourage the entire community to come out and support the fight against cancer," TVHS coach Mike DiPasquale said. "Cancer has touched everyone in one way or another. Whether you've had it or someone you know has had it, everyone has been effected by it at some point. We want to raise funds to help in the battle to find a cure for cancer, so that someday hopefully we can eliminate it."
The event will feature the Lady Bulldogs donning white uniforms with pink trim to show support for the fight, not only against breast cancer, but all cancers. Last year's game raised more than $1,600 that was donated to the Davis Cancer Center at Davis Memorial Hospital.
"We're asking everyone to wear pink in support," DiPasquale said. "However, it's not just for breast cancer. We recognize all types of cancer.
"We are fortunate to have a cancer care center in Elkins. I think everyone is very appreciative to have it located in the community. We want to do our part to support it."
The Lady Bulldogs intend to donate half of the gate admission in addition to funds raised during a t-shirt sale for cancer awareness.
Prior to the varsity contest, Tygarts Valley Middle School will play at 5:45 p.m. TVMS eighth grade players will be recognized during the game.
If anyone would like to help donate to this cause or would like to buy a t-shirt, please contact DiPasquale at TVHS at 304-335-4575.
