PARSONS - Tucker County Schools is offering parents, teachers, staff, students and residents the opportunity to offer input into the 2014-2015 school calendar.
Superintendent Dr. Eddie Campbell said a public meeting is slated for 5:30 p.m. Feb. 17 at the Tucker County Board of Education Central Office.
"The meeting will offer folks the opportunity to learn about mandates handed down from the West Virginia State Department of Education regarding the calendar," Campbell said. "We are looking for input from those in the area, and have included a survey for those to offer their voice should they be unable to come to the upcoming meeting."
The survey is available online at www.tuckercountyschools.com. Questions on the survey ask for input on four beginning and ending dates for classes; preference for the Thanksgiving vacation; preference for spring break; and choices about adding back instructional time missed because of snow days, delays and early dismissals. The last question deals with teachers and professional development and training activities.
"The new law mandates that students receive 180 instructional days in the classroom per school year," Campbell said. "Those days must be completed in a 48-week window beginning Aug. 1 and ending June 30," he said."
So far, the online survey has had more than 300 hits, Campbell said.
"We hope folks will attend the Feb. 17 meeting, or take the time to go online and complete the survey," he said.
