Joan E. Kittle, 83, of Ravenna, Ohio, passed away Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, in Akron City Hospital ICU.
She was born March 31, 1930, in Elkins, to the late Fred and Vera (Denton) Vanscoy.
Joan graduated from Davis & Elkins College in Elkins. Joan was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ravenna, Ohio, the Ravenna Elks and Eastern Star. She had worked as a secretary for City Loan in Ravenna. She was a former school teacher at Crestwood High School in Mantua, Ohio, and a substitute teacher for Ravenna High School. She loved traveling the 50 United States, golfing, playing cards and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years Norman; daughter, Jennifer (Monty) Grafton of Streetsboro, Ohio; grandchildren, Monty G. Grafton and Jenica L. (Matt) Pickney; great-granddaughter, Evelynn Grace Pickney; and brother, Richard (Carol) Vanscoy of Florida. She also leaves behind many nephews and nieces.
She will be deeply missed and forever loved by those who were blessed by her presence in their lives. She loved her family and grandchildren and great-granddaughter very much.
Calling hours will be from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, at Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Home Ravenna Chapel where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Stephen Sparling officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Ravenna.
