EMS varsity girls fall in tournament

PHILIPPI - The Elkins Middle School girls varsity team dropped a 30-25 decision in overtime to Belington in the consolation game of the area tournament on Wednesday night.

The Hornets finished the season with an 8-8 record.

"I couldn't be more proud of my team this season,"?EMS coach Shane Richardson said. "They improved everyday at practice, and each time they took to the floor they got better.

"I wish my eight eighth graders the best of luck in their spring sports and in their high school endeavors, and I'm excited to have my two seventh graders back for next season. The way this team came together and fought through adversity this season makes me proud to have been part of their journey."

Kaci Zopp led the Hornets with 12 points. Taylor Maynard chipped in with nine.

Kasey Neville and Mackenzie Carpenter each had eight points for the Hawks.

The EMS junior varsity team will host Buckhannon-Upshur at 1:30 p.m. Saturday for the area title.

Meanwhile, area boys tournament action is slated to continue today at Tucker Valley Middle School.
