February 22, 2014
By Sara Harris - Round and About Barbour County (sharris@theintermountain.com) , The Inter-Mountain

Hello from Barbour County! I do have some good news! Spring will arrive in less than one month! I have heard some reports of ladybug sightings and some are even tapping their maple trees for the precious sap to make sweet maple syrup.

There will be a spaghetti dinner today at the Philippi Church of the Nazarene from 3-7 p.m. This will be to benefit Relay For Life and help "stick a fork in cancer." The price for adults is $6, children under age seven is $3. If you want tickets in advance, call (304) 476-2758, or tickets will be available at the door. Take out also is available. Come out and help support a great group of survivors and fighters!

There will be a public meeting at the Barbour County Board of Education on Feb. 24 at 6 p.m. This will be to discuss the 2015-2015 school calendar in Barbour County. Now is the time to come out and ask questions or express your concern/opinion. There is also a survey available regarding this at www.surveymonkey.com/s/2MYNF63.

There will be a Downhill Diecast Race on March 2 at the Union Community Building. Registration starts at 1 p.m., with racing starting at 2 p.m. This will be a race between 1/64 scale cars. This is a free event with fun for all ages and cars will be provided if you do not have one. The theme is "Drags Not Drugs."

Belington Public Library will have children's story hour every Thursday at 4 p.m. Come out for a story and an age-appropriate craft. There will also be a free movie and popcorn on March 7. The movie will be an animated adventure. It is rated PG. The library also has free tax preparation service through April 8. An appointment is required. Tax forms are still available at the library for those wishing to do their own taxes. You can call the library at (304) 823-1026 for more details.

Philip Barbour FFA is selling strawberries by the flat. The cost is $26 and a flat consists of 8 quarts. Delivery is set for March 17-20. Contact any FFA member at the high school to place an order.

If you have any Barbour County news that you would like to see in The Inter-Mountain, give me a call at (304) 823-2539 or by email at sharris@theintermountain.com. I love hearing from you!

Until next time, I saw a cute sign at Mace's Pharmacy this week: "Snowmen. $19.99. Some assembly required."
