TENNERTON - Logan Phillips fired in 26 points as Elkins pulled away from Buckhannon-Upshur, 61-51, Friday night in Big 10 Conference play.
The Tigers led 34-20 before the Bucs rallied to cut the deficit to five points in the third quarter.
"We got off to a big lead in the first half with great defense then relaxed in the third quarter," Elkins coach John Lawson said. "I give Buckhannon credit, though. They came out to play in the third."
Lawson said the experience of his team came through in the fourth.
"If we had a young team, we might have lost this game," he said. "But our kids did a good job of handling the situation and taking care of business to secure the victory."
Tyler Shreve added 15 points for the Tigers, who will visit North Marion at 5:15 p.m. today.
Cameron Workman and Zane Clevenger each had nine for the Bucs (4-13), who travel to Lewis County today.
