RACHEL - Logan Phillips hit for 23 points Saturday to lead Elkins past North Marion, 64-56, in Big 10 Conference action.
"It was a very good second quarter for us," EHS coach John Lawson said. "Everything else was pretty much even. It catapulted us for the rest of the game.
"I think we handled things very well in the second half. We started playing position basketball. The offense really came around. We also played good defense down the stretch. I think we are headed in the right direction."
Tyler Shreve and Kollin Hopwood added 11 points each for the Tigers.
Senior point guard Chase Barker paced the Huskies with 30 points.
Elkins will travel to Grafton at 7:30 p.m. today for a conference makeup game.

HICO - Derrick Villarico nailed two free throws in the final minute to secure a victory for Tygarts Valley over Van Saturday in the consolation round of the West Virginia Hometown Invitational Tournament at Midland?Trail High School.
With the score deadlocked at 56 with 32 seconds remaining in regulation, the Bulldogs set up a play out of a timeout for Villarico, who was fouled on a layup attempt with 21 ticks left on the clock.
Tygarts Valley then defended two shots at the end, including a trey attempt by Brandon Elswick at the final horn.
Jace Kyle hit four 3- pointers in the first quarter to help the Bulldogs mount a 17-point lead at halftime. Villarico scored 11 of his 13 points in the second half.
Kyle paced TVHS, which led 49-34 after three quarters, with 19 points. Villarico contributed 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Ben Sycafoose added 11 points and dished three assists.
For Van, Brandon Elswick scored 14 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter. Logan Crouse added 12 points to the effort.
The Bulldogs (8-10) will host Pocahontas County at 7:30 p.m. today.
