The regular season is in the books for girls' varsity basketball and sectional tournaments are underway.
The Class AAA Region 2, Section 2 tournament gets started today with Elkins playing at Hampshire at 6 p.m. and Lewis County playing at Buckhannon Upshur at 7 p.m. The championship game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday.
For the Tigers (3-17), seniors Charlie George and Madison Collett will pace the offense, along with sophomore Logan Dudley. Hampshire County (9-11) defeated Elkins, 48-30, to open the season Dec. 3.
Buckhannon-Upshur (7-11) and Lewis County (5-15) split their regular season games with LCHS winning, 57-39, on Feb. 10 and B-U winning, 73-64, on Feb. 22. Top players for B-U include juniors Megan Wilfong and Courtney Reed and freshman Makayla Reynolds. For the Minutemaids, junior Karli Hamrick and sophomore Brookly Perkey will power the offense.
Class A Region 2, Section 1, tips off on Wednesday when Union takes on Tucker County at 5:45 p.m. and Notre Dame plays Tygarts Valley at 7 p.m. Both games will be played at Elkins High School. The championship game is set for 7 p.m. Friday at EHS.
The Lady Mountain Lions (16-4) are led by seniors Stephanie Betler and Bekah Simmons. TCHS did not face Union (10-8) during the regular season.
Tygarts Valley (12-7) are led by seniors Emily Pingley, Paige Pritt, Kelsey Arbogast and Charity Lower. The Lady Bulldogs defeated ND, 56-33, on Jan. 30 and lost, 62-61, on Feb 10.
Class A Region 2, Section 2, gets started on Wednesday with East Hardy (4-13) at Pocahontas County (13-7) and Moorefield (6-16) playing at Pendleton County (9-10). Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. for both games. The sectional championship is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at Petersburg High School.
Pocahontas County beat East Hardy both times the teams met this season. Pendleton defeated Moorefield both times the two played.
Class AA Region 2, Section 2 tournament started Monday. The only area team in the racket, Philip Barbour lost to Bridgeport, 40-23.
