ELKINS - Grab your slow cooker from the shelf and prepare your best recipe to enter in this year's Community Crock Pot Cook Off, slated for 12:15 p.m., March 9 at St. Brendan Catholic Church.
Community groups, scout groups, families and individuals are invited to vie for prizes at the event.
The culinary extravaganza, a fundraiser for Catholic Charities West Virginia, is in its sixth year. Entries in past years included chilis, soups, stews, barbecue, jambalaya, macaroni and cheese and desserts.

While there is no fee to enter the Cook Off or to taste and vote for the best recipe, those attending are asked to donate a non-perishable food or canned item.
"Cash donations are also greatly appreciated," Cindy Hammer, regional director for Catholic Charities, said. "We hope many folks will come out and join in the fun."
Along with the Cook Off, items will be available during a Chinese raffle and silent auction. Prizes available include many hand-made items, a Vera Bradley bag, tickets to the American Mountain Theater, a birdhouse made by John Sainato, a West Virginia University football autographed by Dana Holgerson, and many gift baskets donated by local individuals and businesses.
Donations for the silent auction and raffle are still being accepted. All proceeds will benefit Catholic Charities West Virginia to help feed the hungry and the most vulnerable neighbors in the community.
