John Harvey Fenney, Sr., 65, of Buckhannon, died Monday, March 3, 2014, at home of his son in Clarksburg while under the care of People's Hospice.
He was born Oct. 18, 1948, in Logan, a son of the late Henry and Opal Napier Fenney.
On Nov. 15, 1974, he married Lillian M. Gushlaw, who preceded him in death Oct. 2, 2008.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Jaxton Dean; and one brother, Bill Fenney.
He is survived by one son, John H. Fenney Jr. and wife, Angela, of Clarksburg; two daughters, Johnna Dean and husband, Matt, of Logan and Nikki Preece of Chapmanville; four grandsons, John and Jacob Fenney, both of Clarksburg, Justin Taylor of Logan and Trey Taylor and wife, Malorie, of Man; four granddaughters, Kaylei Fenney of Clarksburg, Myka Adkins of Logan and Ashlee and Amber Neece of Chapmanville; two great-grandsons, Cayden and Cash Sutherland, both of Chapmanville; one great-granddaughter, Lacie Taylor of Man; one sister, Mary Elmore and husband, Junior, of Smith Mountain, Va.; one sister-in-law, Thelma Fenney of Wortland, Ky.; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dogs, Pappy and Abby.
Mr. Fenney was a fire safety technician. He was a member of Buckhannon Moose Lodge 598 and the Eagles Club. He served in the U.S. Marines and was a member of the United Mine Workers.
Friends will be received Friday, March 7, from 5-8 p.m. at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Napier Family Cemetery at Wayne with the Rev. Bill Marcum officiating.
