ELKINS - Davis & Elkins College seniors majoring in Education recently received their student teaching assignments for the spring semester. Each student will gain experience in two classrooms throughout the semester.
The following students are working under the mentorship of co-operating teachers: Kendra Collett of Elkins, assigned to Adam Roth at Elkins High School and Kelly Vandevander at Elkins Middle School; Clint Bennett of Harman, assigned to Luanna Moore at George Ward Elementary School and Nancy Saffle at EHS; Chelsi Primavero of Parsons, assigned to Darren Burnside at Tucker Valley Elementary Middle School and Melisa Dyer and Mary Waters at Tucker County High School; Markita Prieto of Belington, assigned to Dawn Kittle at Junior Elementary School and Amy White at Third Ward Elementary School; Melissa Parsons of Hambleton, assigned to Lorrie Demotto and Susan Isner at North Elementary School and Naomi West at North Elementary School; Alex McCumbers of Rosedale, assigned to Melissa Walters and Kim Simmons at TVMS and Heidi Jefferies at Elkins Mountain School; Brad Banzhoff of Hagerstown, Md., assigned to Brenda Cantley at EMS and Beth Arbogast at TVHS.
The Davis & Elkins College Teacher Education Program prepares competent, caring and qualified teachers for schools in Appalachia and in national and global communities. Students seeking certification in elementary education grades K-6 undertake a major in education, which leads to the awarding of a Bachelor of Arts degree. A student seeking certification in a content specialization (grades 5-9, and/or 9-adult) must declare a major outside of education with a declared minor in education.
